How to Choose an Awning Contractor

Finding a qualified contractor is the first step toward quality control of any construction project, including the purchase and installation of awnings. Start with these three simple questions you should ask before you hire an awning contractor:

All California building contractors must be able to provide proof of a Contractor's License, Performance Bond, Business and Vehicle Liability Coverage, City Business License, Seller's Permit, Workers Compensation Coverage and OSHA Safety Program. Few property owners are aware that they may suffer unrecoverable damage and loss or be held liable for losses suffered by others, including workers on their property, when they hire an unlicensed, uninsured or underinsured contractor. Beware the contractor who does not have every component of a complete license and insurance portfolio. Excuses such as "I am exempt from Workers Compensation because I do not technically have employees" should be view skeptically. If uninsured workers are hurt on your property, you are liable regardless of by whom they are technically employed. Check your contractor's record. These structurally sturdy, durable-finished frames are then carefully "skinned" with custom-tailored canvas covers made from genuine Sunbrella® solution-dyed outdoor canvas and premium Gore Tenara® outdoor thread, engineered to withstand UV light, chemical cleaners, saltwater, rot and mold. Retractable shade products including lateral arm retractable patio covers, skylight canopies, retractable window awnings and retractable drop shades begin with precision engineered Italian-made retractable hardware with ultra-durable, powder-coated finish. Retractable framework is fitted with custom-tailored Sunbrella® canvas, designed specifically to withstand not only weather but the motion, friction and encasement of retractable operation.
